Winter Driving Question(s)... 900 1991

We had a bit of snow here last winter, but we were only a one Volvo household then. Since I was the only one who had to get out and drive in the snow, I took the Saturn out instead of the Volvo.

Well, this year we are an all-Volvo household. On the off chance that it might snow, I have been hesitant to invest in eight steel wheels and eight snow tires. Besides, I would not have anywhere to put them during the summer.

Many years ago, I had a 1972 Mercedes 220. We had several brutal snowfalls one winter (in Virginia, anything over 6" is brutal), and I purchased a set of cable chains. I could go just about anywhere as long as I didn't go over 45 mph. They worked great.

Does anyone have any recent experiences with cable chains? I would like to be able to get a couple of sets of cable chains for my two cars in case of a major (major means more than 4" of snow) snow event this winter. BTW, I am running 205 60 R15's on one car and 205 55 R16's on the other.
