Starter - puzzler (Mssr. Foster perhaps) 200 87

this is on a 1987 245

When the key is turned in the ignition switch, the dash warning lights all come on, but there is no action from the starter - no noise, no click - nada.

The starter will turn and start the engine when shorted b/w the 12V lug and the right spade connector terminal on the solenoid.

There is no action from the starter, or the solenoid, when using the bypass connecter located on the center of the firewall.

Any thoughts??

(Don - we have winter here - snow on the ground and the whole nine yards)

Thanks in advance
