Emission stuff 200 1986

Please strick with me here. Directly in front of the left front wheel is canister that is used in some manner to support the emissions system. There are three connections, one which goes back to the gas tank, one which goes up to the throttle body and the last which seems to go over to the computer. My question is this; How can I tell if the air flow through the assembly which sits on top of the canister is working properly?
