removal of dashboard speaker grilles, 760 model 700 1988

How does one remove these things? They have what look like little screw covers on either side of the back edge, but no reasonable amount of prying does anything. Needless to say, I'don't want to break the little buggers just to clean the debris out of the screen. Anyone with experience in this matter?
