Pete,

In the tank is a short piece of rubber fuel line connectng the bottom of the pickup to the upper section. Over time it deteriorates and you cannot pick up fuel from the bottom 1/3 of the tank. Replacing it is not too difficult except for removing the ring that locks the assembly in the tank. It's all accessable from inside the trunk. If you can't hear the prepump running, the problem might be there.
