Swapping B234F for B230T 700 1989

Hello,

This conversion has been addressed a few times in this forum, and I have decided after much thought and searching on the Brickboard that it is best to swap out the B234F. I found while searching for topics on the B234F that most of them concerned the failure and subsequent discontinuation by Volvo. But anyway down to the meat of the subject.

A few people on Turbobricks told me that the swap is very problematic, and one person even said that no fuel injection shop in town would touch the car after he performed the conversion. My experience with cars is mainly American makes, but I would assume that many principals stay the same. For example I am familiar with swapping small block 350 Chevrolet engines equipped with the popular GM Tuned Port Fuel Injection into Camaros previously equipped with carbeuration. The provisions for the fuel injection are there from the factory; they simply were not utilized at the time of manufacturing. Therefore I would be led to believe that Volvo practices the same type of cost/time effective manufacturing processes.

Can anyone point me in the direction of the most helpful information on the subject? Rene Svastal gave me some information on the computers and wiring and it seems very simple, but there must be more to it. Are there any more people out there that have performed the conversion and are happy with it? Again the way I see the swap going is of course fitting all of the plumbing for the fuel injection, turbo, intercooler etc...And then the wiring and computers. I was told that the turbo harness will fit directly into the firewall plug and that the computers will plug in on the other side. Are there any modifications to the connectors needed that anyone knows of? I am going to pick up the Volvo manuals for 740s equipped with both engines to see what the differences are, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions/things to watch out for.

Any help is appreciated,

Matthew C. Hall
