Questions about prepump and running rich 200 1983

Hi all,

My car suffers losses of power at higher revs when the fuel tank is getting low. From what I've read and heard this makes me think that the prepump isn't working properly. The Haynes manual has nothing to say about the topic. Is there anything tricky about the job -- it's in the fuel tank right?

My second question is about running rich. I think my car is running rich because I get terrible gas mileage which is in part because the overdrive doesn't work but that doesn't explain getting like 140 miles to a tank. I haven't found anything that talks about fixing this problem. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Pete
