fuel pump siezes 200 75

has anyone shared the annoying experience of the fuel pump not starting, ie drawing current without turning. Turning off the ign, giving it a few taps with a small hammer and then on again, it then runs ok. I pulled it apart the first time this happened and found nothing wrong, reassembled it and presto - right as rain until the next time. Recently I think i've 'cured' it by tossing about half a cup of oil in with each full tank of petrol. Does anyone know of a solid cause/cure? By the way, this car has one pump only, next to the tank and fuel passes through it via the motor internals.
