Re: 240DL Driver's Seat 200 1987

I had the same issue with my 85 245, I didn't read all the replies to your message so forgive me if I repeat what others may have said.

First thing you need to know is that the passenger seat and drivers seat can be switched. You have to make a minor modification (bend it) to the mounting tab, also this should not be a permanent soltion because the adjustment knob for the backrest will not be accessible. But it makes it to where you can do the seat yourself if you wish and still drive the car, or drop the seat off with someone to do.

As for the do it your self issue, I opted for to have a shop do the seats, they did a pretty good job and charged me 250.00 per seat. The passenger seat came out great better than new, the drivers seat was much worse off and I suspect that the foam used was not the same density as the original, still the seat is very comfortable and firm, its just that the shape is not exactly what I wanted. In short my advise would be to use a professional shop preferablly one that has done some european cars before, ask them. I say this because if they are accustomed to redoing seats for Oldsmobiles and Pickups, which have marshmallow seats, your seats may end up being too soft.

Good Luck,

Don
