B...b..b...bushings! 700 1990

After reading some posts about regular bushings vs. poly bushings I started to notice "loose" handling in my 740 turbo and some of the tell-tale clunking noises. In all honesty my 1999 GMC 2500 Suburban feels "tighter"!!! The Volvo only has 47K miles on it and is/was garaged by me and the previous owner. I know wear and tear is the main reason for bushing wear, but how much of a factor is the age of the car in determining when to replace bushings? Also, since vehicle handling is affected how dangerous is it to have worn bushings?

Thanks!
