the story of my life? or is it broken oil strainer cover...

well, I decided to change the oil in my m46 gearbox...

the stuff in there did turn out to be the original goop.

I ran into some trouble, one of the bolts on the oil strainer

cover plate (overdrive) broke right in half, took a lot of

work to get the little stub out of there. it also took the

corner of the plate with it.

it's almost back together, that is: clean, new gasket, 5 bolts.

I just need to wait until the stores open in the morning to get

the 6th bolt and finish the change. we'll see if that plate leaks

or not with the gimpy corner.

why didn't anyone tell me what a hastle it is to jack up the

gear box and remove the support before the plate can be unscrewed?

I will post with the results of the switch latter today.

(as in wether it fixed my OD switch problem).
