87 Volvo saga of the dead starter... 200 87

Well, thanks to all who enlightened moi, SilverBrick now starts with the turn of the key - no more hotwiring required.

What it was was there were severeal broken wires on the right side of the grey transfer block (on the firewall).

One of them was the blue/yellow which provides 12V to the solenoid, this is why the bypass clip did not work.

The other was the yellow (temp sending unit to guage). So now the temp gauge works.
