electrical problem??????? 700 1987

I have a 1987 740 turbo sedan and it has been giving me trouble lately...The car runs great 90 percent of the time but sometimes I'll start it up and the RPM will go down to about 600 .....The engine is barely turning....This is just the first sign ,,then if I take the car for a ride it will start acting up...the tachometer will start bouncing up and down and the car will buck......when the tach is going up and down the car isn't reving up though....then the tach will go down to 0 but the interior dash panel lights don't go on which means that the car is still in fact running...then i try to give it gas and it doesn't take it ,,,,,then it does take it and backfires twice ....then the next time I put the clutch in the tach is back to normal reading 1000....I've have been to my Volvo mechanic 3 times and he basically gave up on it.....ANY SUGGESTIONS???????
