Transmission slow to start 200 84

The pup sled wagon is hard to start after sitting for a while, The tranny spins and then it begins to move. I've pretty much elliminated all the evil things and figure it's the check valve that keeps the viscous coupler filled when the pump isn't pumping when it's turned off over night is stuck and I have to wait while the coupler fills up. I figure I ought to change the fluid, just because it's relatively easy, but the real question is other than the annoying 5 second wait for initial motion in the morning, would living with the problem be better (financially and otherwise) than trying to delve deep into the drivetrain. Is it hurting anything other than my pride? Should I leave it in park for a few seconds or can I leave it in reverse and wait? Thanks to all in advance!
