High Idle in morning, slow temp gauge 200 1987

hey BB'ers,

i haven't posted in a while b/c the beast has been running great. Its been getting cold lately, with the cold, has come a 2500 rpm idle in the morning when i first start her up. It stays up there for a few minutes until everything warms up. My temp gauge is also slow to show any temperature, and when running temp is achieved, it runs just above the low line...this is not normal for this beast, it runs around the middle mark usually.

I was wondering if these problems are related? Temp sensor on the block? Any help is appreciated. have a great day
