Thanks to all for answering my post,

"if the pump cam follower is holding the unit in place."

I'm at a spot where the above statement concerns me. As advised I have tapped, turned, cussed, and pryed my way to the point where I can actually use the Volvo lug wrench bars as pry bars on each side. My gap now is about an 1/8" at a minimum and I can pry open to almost a 1/4". What concerns me is the fact that it wants to spring back and I'm guessing it must be catching the cam follower.

Can I damage this beyond repair which would sent me to bone yard lookin for parts??

I put car in reverse before pulling unit but did not kill motor that way. I have since put into first gear while turning clockwise as described. Does any gear selection make a difference at this point??

Solonoid is removed as well as pan was opened up enough to drain but I have not removed any of the spanner type plugs inside of pan.(prv etc)

Your help is appreciated. Rick
