760T - Poor performance, rough running 700 1988

This car WAS running fine. From one day to the next it's performance completely changed. The symptoms are;

- very rough running. (loud vibrating under hood on passenger side)

- serious loss of power. (won't move more than 30 mph)

- idle swings from about 1600 rpm to stall.

- metallic smell from exhaust.

No smoke. Plugs look clean. Turbo blades move freely by hand. All connections (hoses, wires, etc.) clean and tight. (Some folks have suggested a faulty AMM might be the culprit.) I looked through the www.swedishbricks.net board and discovered that there are several dozen potential problems that could exhibit these symptoms.

Can anyone help me to narrow them down? (Repairs are a strength but diagnosis is not.)
