You're absolutely right about the belts. First week I had the 84 wagon, I replaced all the v-belts. They were pretty bad. The hoses looked fairly new, though, so I didn't touch them. I did flush the radiator and fill it with all new coolant.

"Middle of the Mojave Desert" is Lancaster, CA. Not technically the middle, but it sure feels like it in the middle of summer. (avg temp roughly 108F) At minimum, we're on the edge of nowhere.
