Mystery stalling fixed? 200 83'

First of all I want to thank all of you who helped me out with the mystery stalling/ no start problem my wife's 83' 240 had.

The brick board is about answers so I am going to share my information about the continuous dead Hall Effect Sensor diagnosis. I replaced everything associated with the little bugger and still no start.

The winner was - the three pins connecting the Hall Sensor to the ignition module. At 80 cents each they were a bargain.

Now that I am older, wiser and much poorer, I understand the reasoning behind the Bentley manual wanting me to "back-probe" the connections. This is to see if the signals are making it to the ignition module. I had checked the wiring for continuity and voltage, many, many times but, I never checked to see if the electrons were making it back to the controller.

The intermittent stalling and poor drivability were seemingly linked to those silly "one way, one time" pins, (I hope the Chyrsler engineer that invented that hateful device will be punished). The mechanic I ended up taking the car to sez' the Volvo manual has you check the pins first, since they are the cheapest and easiest fix. The "Don Father", (aka, Don Foster) was right about these connections and I was too squeamish to wade in there, needle-nosed pliers in hand to tighten them up.

The good part is the cache of spares I have for our two 240's.

I told my wife we could now keep these cars running even longer. She "loved" hearing that. .

Thanks again, I am so much happier now that both Volvo's are rolling again.
