Poped the heater coolant hose.. common? 200 84

Hi all,

Today on the freeway the hose from the cylinder head to the joint on the firewall leading to the heater core (guessing, but what else could it be!) poped.

just curious, has this happened to anyone else on the older (more aged) volvos?

given the position of the hose, behind the engine, similar to the turbo harness degradation problem (due to heat) I'd think this would be something to check on any "new" volvo you start driving.. before it blows up on the freeway.

I was lucky. I had no idea it blew but the car behind me started flashing his lights, got up beside me and told (rather somewhat screamed at 60mph) me my "car was blowing alot of water, looks bad!". given what he was driving, he knows a little about cars luckily. my first reaction however was "are you on crack?" but i looked down and surely the temp needle was higher... 'bout 2 seconds later I noticed a whisp of smoke from the front of the car. <"oh hell" i say!>

I pulled over, and it was already starting to overheat, quite quick. at least I was at the exit I needed to be at, right by the office :) (volvo's ALWAYS make it through for me so far!)

I think it got caught before any damage was done. The needle was just at the red when I managed to kill the engine. we'll see tommorow when the parts place is open to sell me a hose!

just a little note to the board, maybe someone will benefit...

cheers,

-Nate
