Installing glass. Need sealer? 200 1983

I am replacing a broken glass panel in the cargo area of my 245, I got the rubber seal clean. Is it recommendable to use something like an acrylic based caulk to help keep water out? I am mainly concern about rusting along the lower part of the window. Thanks.
