Shifter Linkage (auto tran) 200 89

My shifter was slipping ever so slightly, so I got under th car and adjusted the linkage arm about a half an inch (shorter). Now reverse looks as if I am in N and D looks like 2 . My question is. It all feels like it is sitting right, but am I gonna screw up something if I don't get under there right away to adjust it back towards the opposite direction?

Does this make sense? I made the adjustment in the first place because when I was in reverse the gears would slip a bit, then catch if I wiggled the shifter.
