lights 700 1990

Here is an easy question. I have a 1990 760 Turbo. When I got the car there were a bunch of lights out in various places my question is-

to the left and right of the steering wheel below spedo and fuel etc., there are banks of switchs, sunroof, headlights etc. are these supposed to be lit? And if so how many lights are back there and how do I get to them? oh yeah and what type of light are they?

BTW Thanks for all your help in restoring this fine automobile
