Electrical problems 245T 200 1984

Hello everybory!

A friend purchased an '84 245T. It needs some work. It wouldn't start. The fuel pumps were not getting voltage. We bypassed the relay, it started but then all the lights on the instrument panel remained on(after it started), the idle is high and the tachometer doesn't work. The engine wire harness looks bad at the connectors. My questions are:

1. Will a bad wire harness cause all these problems?

2. Is the computer of the car in risk of being damaged when the wire harness is bad?

3. If the computer of the car is damaged, would the car start and show any of the symptoms described above.

4. Are the computers of all 240 turbos in the USA the same part?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
