Electrical questions ( a suspension one as well) 120-130 66

Hello,

I have a couple questions about the electrical system in my 122. A friend explained the theory of it all very well to me, but I'm still stumped on a couple things.

1. The reverse lights will not work, and I have determined it is because the gearbox is not grounded properly. Should this ground be throught the ground strap? If so, why does my OD work? Is the solenoid grounded the same way, throught he ground strap? All the diagrams I have just show that they are grounded separately.

2. How is the brake light switch grounded? Haynes only has something specific for the later, dual line systems. As I recall, the switch is on the firewall in my 66. As it is now, when the brakes are applied, the insturment lights come on. I assume that the current is finding ground through the panel lights. Amusing, but I'd like to fix it. THe brake lights do work as it is.

3. Not electrical related! I have a set of ipd lowering springs, and the front of my 122 sits higher than the back. I have loosened and re-torqued the lower A-arm bolts, dropped each side to be sure the springs are properly seated, and put several cylinder heads on the front bilkhead in an attempt to lower it a bit. I double checked the invoice and it says I have the right springs. I threw away the tags on the springs, but I assume they were correct as well. Has anyone had this experience?

4. Lastly, I have an old M40 gearbox that I wanted to take the input shaft out of to use as a pilot tool when I replace the clutch on my 1800. When I try to remove it, as described by Haynes and the rest, it will not come out. Is there a circlip somewhere inside that has to be removed first? It pulls out about 1/4" and stops.

Thanks!
