overdrive relay 700 1991

Dear brickboard readers, at 150K the relay which allows you to go in and out of overdrive mode by pressing the button on the shifter seems to be acting up. It is going in and out of overdrive occasionally, and when I press the button while sitting stationary the yellow arrow doesn't always go off and on as I press the button, nor do I always hear the relay click.

I would like to know this. If I take the relay out of it's socket which mode will the transmission be in. Will it always be in the overdrive mode, or will it always be in the non overdrive mode.?

I have never used that button while driving the car and if it's going to be permanently in the overdrive mode then that's ok with me.

Please advise me on this and thanks,

bob simon
