sunroof motor on 89 and 90 interchangeable 700 1989

my '89 760t sunroof hasn't worked for a while. i had some time yesterday, and took it out to examine it. i noticed when power was supplied to the harness, a small plastic piece moves up and down and makes a click, but the motor didn't move. i bypassed that part, and boom! it turned on. i was gonna replace the motor from a used car. i have a choice of an 87 740, or a 90 740. anyone know if these are interchangable? or anyone know how to fix this little problem with the switch on the motor? thanks.
