Extended-coolant compatibility 700 1987

And now for my next question, has anyone tried any of the extended-life antifreeze/coolants in their Volvo? There are several brands on the market, and they all seem to be different formulations. Are any of them safe to use in an '87 760 Turbo? Or should I stick with tried-and-true regular Prestone?

Also, I had heard that it isn't wise to use any cooling system cleaner prior to back-flushing the radiator and engine. I was told to use only water. Is this right? Do the cleaners damage the engine somehow?
