clutch adjustment 200 79

ive never adjusted a clutch before and it looks fairly straight forward, but i wanted to ask all those more experienced on tips or how to do it, etc. i dont have a hydrolic clutch, soo im just adjusting the play in the release arm. also the spring looks kinda sad soo im wondering if i need toreplace that as well. and finally, upon looking in the book it says theres supposed to be a rubber bushing type thing in between the clutch cable and release arm, but either mine didnt have one or it disintigrated. im guess it probably disintigrated along with most of the other bushings. soo any input would be great. the reason i checked it was because i was hearing a sort of ping or poping noise sometimes when i let out the clutch. anyway, i'll look forward to your replies and thanx - john
