Re: clutch adjustment 200 79

When I adjust a 2 series clutch, I jam a big old pry bar or other strong prying mechanism up into the bellhousing, first to relieve tension on the arm and then to hold it in place while I adjust the cable. I take the cable completely out of the release arm, as they tend to be stuck and require some delicacy. If its the original cable, it will probably have a metal adjusting nut. If its a replacement, then it might be plastic, in which case beware. I have rendered a car motionless when I cracked the cable housing because the whole aparatus was too cold. Adjust the cable so that you have some freeplay in the pedal inside the car but no more than say 1/4 inch. You can look up the specs if you choose. If that cable looks nasty and is missing requisite bushings, I might replace the whole thing. Broken cables can ruin a day. Also, that ping or pop might be a throwout or pilot bearing, both of which require tranny removal. Try the adjustment first and good luck
