Air WOOOSH when press gas pedal 200 84

Something bizarre is happening on my 1984 245. When I first press down on the accelerator --- say when coming off a stop light --- I hear a distinct WOOSH sound. Hard to tell exactly where coming from --- sounds like in the dash area someplace. Once the car gets going after a few seconds, the sound disappears. But if I take my foot off the gas and coast, then press down on the gas again, I get the same WOOSH of air as when coming off the line. In other words, speed has nothing to do with it. It's something about pressing down on the gas pedal.

Anyone had this experience?
