Well, what is the idle speed? Does the idle fluctuate? If you didn't mention the idle symptom, I would direct you elsewhere than the idle control valve (aka motor).

Could be that. Could be an air leak after the AMM. Check the bellows hose between the AMM and the throttle body for a tear. Spray some carb cleaner all around that and the TB to detect a leak. Try also cleaning and re adjusting the TB. Don't be surprised if afrerward, your idle sings at 1500 RPM or more.

Rap on the ICV and se if the idle changes, lowers. If so, try cleaning out the port to addure the valve moves freely.

My '84 had a clean TB and good ICV. The acceleration if good off the line, but at 2500 I feel an additional surge. Can't help but wonder what I'm missing in terms of pwer at the lower end. And what is causing this....
