engine oil leak 200 1990

Hi, folks:

My car has engine oil leak. I checked it with the mechanic this afternoon. Unfortunately, he said the leak was from the (middle) body of the engine--from below the upper cap. It will cost $800 to get it fixed. However, when I checked the leak by my self last week, there was some leak on the upper area where a pipe came in. Today, it is not there.

The mechanic suggest me just live with it, since the leak is really slow. Before it leaks to the minimum, the oil need change. So, temporarily

, I have to follow his advice--check engine oil biweekly. But,

1. Is it safe to drive a car like this (With engine oil leak)?

2. Is the leak going worse quickly?

3. I am living in College Station, TX. If somebody live in this area, please recommend a good shop for volvo. I will go to check it.(The mechanic I check with is expert on Japanese cars, not volvo.)

Again, any suggestion is highly appreciated!
