Re: Brake Failure light 200 88

This is usually do to corrosion at one or both of the brake bulbs. Clean-up the bulb contacts, bulb socket and tail light ground wires. Wiping the bulb contacts with a little dielectric grease will help prevent this from recurring. If that doesn't do it then switch the brake bulbs left-right. If that still doesn't do it then the bulbs are mismatched so install a pair of known identical bulbs (ie. 2/package). If your '88 has a 3rd brake light then clean that bulb/socket as well.

As for the bulb out indicator light causing you enough concern to not drive the car, relax. It's just a bulb intensity or blown bulb issue -not the end of the world. Just do a visual check of your bulbs and drive on.
