Car dies then wait about 5 minutes and its fine 700 87

To everyone that has helped this sometime helpless person, thank you. Now we are encountering something really weird. The darn thing just kills itself while driving. Everything will be fine, and then nothing, nada, its dead. The same thing happened to both my wife and son three times this week. But both said when they pulled over and sat a couple of minutes, they restarted it and it was fine. I got it home let it run, took it out on the freeway and-------nothing,it worked fine. I guess the car just loves me. I know there is a bazillion and one places to look on a 87 740,but can someone point me in the right direction. My neighbor down the block is real good with American cars but is mindless with a volvo. Please help me out if you can. I just cleaned out the flame trap last week, It started after that. I have been replaceing wires as they shread.

Thanks
