Silly B20 water pump question ALL 1967

Ok, can someone tell me what you see when you take off the waterpump on a B20.....Is it just a flat portion of the block behind it, or is there a passage into the block for coolant to flow.

(I found a low mile B20 marine engine...no waterpump, but appears to have the bolt holes to attach one, but there's no opening into the block for coolant--like I've seen on other motors)
