HELP ... I Lost My Wheels Tonight.!! 700 1987

While driving on the highway, the oil light came on and my car decelerated, then finally went out. Obviously I'm safe, but my car is sick and waiting to be diagnosed at a shop. Two questions. I had my oil changed about three weeks ago. Is it possible that they didn't put oil in it? I smelled fumes earlier, took the car back and was told that a plastic bag was had melted on the exhaust system. I checked it out and there was melted plastic on the pipes, so I assumed that was the problem. The oil job was done at precission tuning. I heard from the tow guy that those places are not very reliable. Any ideas as to what can be the problem? I hope the engine didn't die. I love this car. (Some of you may remember, I recently got it last October.)

Second question. Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in the northern virginia area? As a woman and single mom, I really feel very vulnerable at these car shops.

Many thanks for all suggestions/comments. J
