I had a simular problem with my 74, 144 fuel injected model, My tank had tons of rust sediment in the bottom, and I vacuumed it all out. then I still had pumps burn out because the inlet filter sock inside the tank was clogged and did not allow enough fuel flow to cool the pump. once I pulled the old filter sock inside the tank off, and added a pre-pump filter the problem was cured. good luck
