Slow Go 200 1988

My 1988 240 with 245.000 miles did something alarming last night. On the way home it felt as though I was in 1st gear, but I was in 4th. No power at all???? I pulled to the side and checked my engine... manually "goosed" the engine, seemed to be OK then all was well. Got back on the road and 10 mins later lost power again, but not as bad... then it became better again??

Any ideas or suggestions... I know I need a catalyctic converter, can this do this?? Bad gas ??? Dirt in lines???

Thanks

Alan
