Shifter cap conversion? I need tips!! 200 '79

Ok. I have a '79 245 dl (manual) with OD. the switch style shifter with the ever cracking (and rattling) shifter cap. I have just cracked my second (@20.00) cap and I faintly remember advice given on this board to me some time ago that I upgrade my shifter cap to the mid-eightys version with push-button OD switch. Apparantly a tougher part. Anyway I called a local boneyard about aquiring such a shift-cap and the parts guy informs me that I will need a cap AND relay AND two wiring harnesses. Now I don't seem to remember that the tip I received last time my cap cracked was all this complicated (nor costly, 150.00!). If anyone is aware of this Mod, please I need Knowledge. I simply cannot afford a louder stereo to drown out this confounded rattle! As always, thanks.
