ignition power stage ? 700 1991

my wife's '91 740 se has been stalling about once a week. the headlights, dashlights and all other electricals work. the tach drops to 0 and sometimes the engine will restart on it's own as the car is coasting. otherwise, we wait a rew minutes and it can be restarted. i read in the FAQ section about the fpr and the power stage. fpr looks brand new. my question is: what does the power stage look like? i see two things mounted to the drivers side fenderwell- one has about four round-battery shaped things clustered together. and the other is mounted to a metal plate that looks like a conductor of some kind. i assume that this is the power stage but i'm not sure.it is made by bosch and it's part # is 0 227 100 124. thank you in advance for any help-
