Re: stock spoiler and body trim questions for an 89 245 DL 200 89

Brian,

YOu're talking about the air dam under the front bumper, right?

I don't now if they came in any body colors other than flat black and silver.

I notice that the Eastwood Company, Potttsville, PA a supplier to auto restoration enthusiasts have a trim paint for plastics. Check their on-line catalog, or ask for a paper one.

I have one of the gray/silver ones to strip and paint. My hunch is it is a black one that the factory merely painted to match that silver color they used in the mid 80's. Some previous owner painted over it, but it is all cracked and flaking off.

It would be good to use a paint which has some flexibility to it after it dries.

I have not found any cleaner that removes polish and wax from plastic/vinyl body trim, like the 3" high mouldings at the door bottoms.

(I have taken to masking them off now, whenever I polish and wax the car)

I used a cheap wax and grease remover on a nylon toothbrush to get it into the texture. Then I painted the trim using Duplicolor Trim Paint in flat black. (for my '86 245DL).
