junkboxes 200 93

Well, let's face it. If wer still have a 240 we either can't afford a new car or we're hobbiests. How many 240 owners step up to an S80? Very few.

Our 240 has 248,000. When I think back on the repairs needed to go this mileage it was a waste of $$--bushings, belts, seals, rear axle/tranny, electrical, steering, and so on. I have an in-law who had a 92 Honda that did the same mileage, used less fuel, and needed none of the major repairs. He tossed it at 300K because the tranny needed a $1000 overhaul. Ha, costs half of that to replace the heater in the 240.

In some weird way our grampas steered us wrong telling us Swedish steel was the best kind. What car can't go 400K if you're willing to drop $1000-$2000 everytime something goes wrong?

To answer your question, a fool and his money are easily parted. I've seen Volvos advertised for $1,500 with over 200K. They think the body condition is indicative of the underpinnings.....oh those unsuspecting.....
