Rear shocks 700 1987

I have a 1987 Volvo 760t which I bought last year. The rear shocks are the notorious nivomat shocks which I guess are no longer made. I'm hearing differing views about this particular shock that it's either a great shock or a poor part of the suspension system. My question is: Is it better to stay with the nivomat (If I can find some), or should I convert. Which is cheaper to do? I was told to convert I will pay about $550.

Thanks

Damon Jackson
