Severe nosediving...recommendations? 200 87

I have an '87 244DL and I was just in a rear-end collision with a Honda Accord (I rear-ended them...ugh.) When I hit my brakes my car nosedived so badly that my grille and trim just below it were what hit the Accord's bumper. It's pretty ridiculous, in my opinion, that that should be the case (it was a '90 or so model, and the rear bumpers on those are big and go pretty far down) so while I hope never to be in that situation again, I do want to know if anyone has suggestions on what I can do or have done to my car to lessen nosediving. I have original springs and, according to my mechanic, original shocks and struts, as well, though I was told they do not need to be replaced immediately. My stepsister has an '89 240 and it seems to be much less prone to roll and pitch than mine. On another note, it also seems to be much quieter over bumps or bad pavement than mine, though it feels similar. Thank you for your help!
