Actually there is a flip side. Idling any car TOO long isn't good.

3 minutes of idle after a regular drive is ree-dick-u-less IMHO. This is fuel wastage and probably leads to more cc deposits.

I say the bottom line is: don't shut your engine down with turbo spinning at high RPM. Just do the putt-putt thing the last few blocks before your house (your neighbors will never know your true driving habits), allow the car to idle for 20-30 seconds - maybe a tad longer if you really had it revved before the putt-putt to cool the turbo down a bit.

Indeed run synthetic oil. Gas turbos are amazingly tough on motor oil, and even the best motor oil on earth isn't rated beyond 10,000 miles in a gas turbo without micro filtration and analysis. Turbos kill petroleum oil FAST (less than 3000 miles).
