Stalled, then was OK again? 200 83

A strange thing happened yesterday. I was just driving along in a back street, took a left turn, and all of a sudden, my 83 240 stalled. I then tried to start the car again, but it wouldn't start even though it was turning over, and over, and over. Finally, after about the sixth or seventh time (in a 10 minute period), the car finally started-up and it was okay again. I then drove it around as if nothing ever happened.

What I'd like to know is what may have caused the sudden stall of the vehicle and why is everything okay again. I'm now afraid that it will happen again at the most inopportune time and I'll get stranded. Should I get the car checked out? And if yes, what should my mechanic be looking for?
