Intermittent Starting Problem 700 1990

Car is 1990 740 Wagon with B230F (non-turbo) engine with 178k miles. Driving the car with no problems, cut it off for 2-3 minutes (long enough to go into Post Office and check mail) come back out and car will not start. Sit there for 3 or 4 minutes and it eventual will start. This has happened twice in past week. Was driving today running 60mph and engine cut off, coasted to a stop, sat there for 1-2 minutes and it cranked right up. What are the likely possibilities? What things should I be checking (or replacing) that might be causing this problem? THANKS
