When I set my fan speed and damper config dials (1 & 2) to auto and turn the temp to blue, both the recirc button and snowflake button light up when the snowflake is depressed. The FAQ talks about codes coming from the snowflake button, but this is probably an example of the '89 not having the full diagnostics, just like the fuel injection system.

If this makes any sense to someone, let me know.
