Re: '86 GL Standard Wagon 1986

Get the Volvo. This is a safe reliable car. You know they have a Volvo Survivors club. They probably would like to have a NOVA survivors club but there membership would be too low to actually form a club. My guess is less survivor to Non-survivor ratio. But in all seriousness...I own an 86 240 DL., I wouldn't think twice about driving in the snow...Get "REAL"

SNOW TIRES...My recommendation is GISLAVED...Best darn snow tire I've ever had...got em by accident...a friend gave me a set of 4 with about 3,000 mi.

Makes handling a dream...If it gets real Dicey I got a set of snow chains in the trunk. People say these Cars are high maintenance...I don't agree.

I got one darn reliable car. I've got 211,200mi. I still have all the original components except for the water pump. In my american made cars...Sure parts are cheaper...BUT THEY ARE MADE CHEAPER TOO...And you will hve about a 3-4:1 replacement ratio. Just goes to show you get what you pay for. The key to a Volvo is to find a Great INDEPENDENT mechanic.

I fix all the small stuff myself. If I got something I can't relate to, I call him up and he tells me how to fix it myself. He has so many people that want him to work on their cars that he trys to help you help yourself

so he doesn't get totally overwhelmed with work. Well I have spewed enough on this subject. Go for the volvo and stay posted to the Brickboard.
